Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For oral candidiasis: 500,000 units (1 tablet) 3-4 times daily. For intestinal candidiasis: 500,000 to 1,000,000 units (1-2 tablets) 3 times daily. Duration of treatment is typically 7-14 days.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required for elderly patients.

How to Take
Tablets should be sucked slowly and dissolved in the mouth, or swallowed whole with water. For oral candidiasis, it's often advised to let the tablet dissolve in the mouth for as long as possible before swallowing to ensure prolonged contact with the affected area.
Mechanism of Action
Nystatin binds to ergosterol, a major component of the fungal cell membrane, leading to increased membrane permeability and leakage of intracellular components, ultimately causing fungal cell death.
