Description
Overview of the medicine
Olpadin DS (Olopatadine) ophthalmic solution is used to treat ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill one drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily, approximately 8 hours apart.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment necessary for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment necessary due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Instill in the conjunctival sac. Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 10 minutes before reinserting.
Mechanism of Action
Olopatadine is a selective H1-receptor antagonist and mast cell stabilizer. It inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells and blocks histamine's effect on H1 receptors, thereby preventing allergic reactions.

Systemic half-life approximately 3 hours, but local effect is prolonged.
