Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1 to 2 drops in the affected eye(s) up to 4 times a day, or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is generally required for elderly patients. Use as per adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid, and instill the drops into the conjunctival sac. Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface.
Mechanism of Action
Naphazoline acts as a vasoconstrictor, reducing ocular redness. Pheniramine is an antihistamine that blocks histamine receptors, thereby reducing itching, swelling, and tearing.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid, typically within minutes.
Excretion
Systemic excretion is negligible due to minimal absorption.
Half life
Not significant systemically due to minimal absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption occurs following ophthalmic administration. Primarily acts locally.
Metabolism
Primarily local metabolism; systemic metabolism is negligible.

- Patients with narrow-angle glaucoma.
Drug Interactions
Other Ophthalmic Decongestants
Concomitant use may increase the risk of adverse effects like rebound hyperemia.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
Use with caution. There is a risk of hypertensive crisis if significant systemic absorption occurs.
Storage
Store at room temperature (15-30°C). Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Overdose may lead to increased local irritation. If significant systemic absorption occurs, symptoms such as drowsiness, bradycardia, hypotension, or CNS depression may manifest. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy and lactation only if clearly needed and the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks. Consult a physician.
