Description
Overview of the medicine
Orabis 5 mg tablet contains Desloratadine, a non-drowsy antihistamine used to relieve symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
5 mg once daily.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment generally required; however, caution should be exercised in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
For patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min), a reduced starting dose of 5 mg every other day is recommended.
How to Take
Orabis tablet can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Mechanism of Action
Desloratadine is a potent, long-acting, selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells and basophils, and blocks the histamine-mediated effects, thereby reducing allergy symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Excreted in urine and feces as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 27 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, peak plasma concentrations achieved in approximately 3 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized to 3-hydroxydesloratadine, an active metabolite, primarily by CYP2C8.

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Desloratadine, Loratadine, or any component of the formulation.
- Patients with phenylketonuria (due to aspartame in some formulations, though not typically in tablets).
