Description
Overview of the medicine
Orioplex-M is a comprehensive multivitamin and multimineral supplement designed to fulfill daily nutritional requirements and prevent deficiencies. It supports overall health, energy metabolism, and immune function.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
One tablet daily, or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage, or as advised by a physician.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution in severe renal impairment due to potential accumulation of certain minerals. Consult a physician.
How to Take
Take orally with a glass of water, preferably after a meal to enhance absorption and minimize gastrointestinal upset.
Mechanism of Action
The various vitamins act as coenzymes in essential metabolic processes, while minerals serve as cofactors for enzymes, maintain fluid balance, and form structural components of the body. Together, they support cellular function and physiological processes.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Effects are generally gradual, observed over weeks to months of consistent use.
Excretion
Water-soluble vitamins and excess minerals are primarily excreted via the kidneys in urine. Fat-soluble vitamins are excreted mainly through bile in feces.
Half life
Variable depending on the specific vitamin or mineral; water-soluble vitamins have shorter half-lives than fat-soluble ones.
Absorption
Vitamins and minerals are absorbed primarily in the small intestine through various active and passive transport mechanisms.
Metabolism
Water-soluble vitamins are generally not metabolized extensively; fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) are metabolized in the liver. Minerals are generally not metabolized but are incorporated into body structures or excreted.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation.
- •Hypervitaminosis (excessive levels of certain vitamins).
- •Hemochromatosis (iron overload disorder).
Drug Interactions
Antacids
May reduce the absorption of certain minerals (e.g., iron, zinc). Take multivitamin a few hours apart from antacids.
Levothyroxine
Calcium and iron can interfere with levothyroxine absorption. Take multivitamin at least 4 hours apart from levothyroxine.
Tetracycline and Quinolone antibiotics
Minerals like calcium, iron, and magnesium can chelate these antibiotics, reducing their absorption. Take multivitamin at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after these antibiotics.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.
Overdose
Overdose is rare with standard multivitamin/multimineral products. However, excessive intake of certain fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) or minerals (e.g., iron, zinc) can lead to toxicity. Symptoms may include severe nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and in severe cases, liver or kidney damage. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and lactation, especially when formulated for these specific periods. However, always consult a doctor before starting any supplement during these times.
