Description
Overview of the medicine
Pamix 120 mg Suspension is used for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate pain and fever in children.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For pediatric use: The recommended dose for children is 15 mg/kg body weight every 4-6 hours, not exceeding 4 doses in 24 hours. For example, a child weighing 8 kg would receive 5 mL (120 mg) every 4-6 hours. Maximum daily dose for children is 60 mg/kg, not to exceed 4g/day. This specific 120 mg/5 mL suspension is generally not recommended for adults as higher strengths are available.
Elderly
Not typically used in this formulation. Standard paracetamol dosage for elderly should be monitored for renal/hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
For severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min), dosage interval should be extended to 8 hours.
How to Take
Oral. Shake the bottle well before use. Use the provided measuring spoon or cup for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol inhibits prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system, leading to its analgesic and antipyretic effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
30-60 minutes for analgesia, 30 minutes for antipyresis.
Excretion
Excreted primarily in the urine as glucuronide and sulfate conjugates, with a small amount of unchanged drug.
Half life
1-4 hours (typically 2-3 hours) in adults, slightly shorter in children.
Absorption
Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
Metabolism
Mainly metabolized in the liver by conjugation with glucuronic acid and sulfate, and via cytochrome P450 pathway to a toxic intermediate (NAPQI) which is rapidly detoxified by glutathione.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to paracetamol or any component of the formulation
- •Severe hepatic impairment
