Description
Overview of the medicine
Panol Plus is a combination medicine containing Paracetamol and Caffeine. It is primarily used for the relief of mild to moderate pain, fever, and symptoms associated with cold and flu, as well as tension headaches and migraine.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours as needed. Do not exceed 8 tablets in 24 hours.
Elderly
Same as adults, but caution should be exercised in individuals with impaired hepatic or renal function.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment may be necessary. Consult a physician.
How to Take
Oral administration. Can be taken with or without food. To minimize gastric upset, take with food.
Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol acts primarily in the central nervous system to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis, resulting in analgesic and antipyretic effects. Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant that enhances the analgesic effect of paracetamol and has vasoconstrictive properties, particularly useful in headache relief.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
30-60 minutes for analgesic/antipyretic effect.
Excretion
Paracetamol and its metabolites are excreted primarily in the urine. Caffeine and its metabolites are also predominantly excreted in the urine.
Half life
Paracetamol: 1-4 hours; Caffeine: 3-7 hours.
Absorption
Both paracetamol and caffeine are rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations for paracetamol are reached within 30-60 minutes, and for caffeine within 30-120 minutes.
Metabolism
Paracetamol is extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by conjugation (glucuronidation and sulfation). Caffeine is also extensively metabolized in the liver by demethylation and oxidation.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to paracetamol or caffeine
