Description
Overview of the medicine
Panzer 20 mg Tablet contains Pantoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce acid production in the stomach. It is prescribed for conditions like heartburn, acid reflux, ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For GERD and erosive esophagitis: 20-40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. For ulcers: 40 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks. For Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: 40-80 mg twice daily, adjusted as needed.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is generally required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with renal impairment.
How to Take
Take the tablet whole with a glass of water, preferably in the morning before a meal. Do not chew or crush the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Pantoprazole irreversibly binds to the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in the gastric parietal cells, inhibiting the final step of acid secretion, thereby reducing gastric acid output.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
2-2.5 hours
Excretion
Primarily excreted via the kidneys (approximately 80%) as metabolites, with the remainder excreted in the feces.
Half life
Approximately 1 hour (terminal elimination half-life is longer due to irreversible binding)
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the small intestine after oral administration. Bioavailability is approximately 77%.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver by the cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzyme system, primarily by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4.
