Description
Overview of the medicine
Progan (Promethazine) is a first-generation antihistamine with strong sedative and antiemetic properties. It is used to treat allergic reactions, motion sickness, and as a short-term sedative.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Allergy: 10-25 mg at bedtime or 10-25 mg 2-3 times daily. Motion Sickness: 25 mg 30-60 min before travel, then 25 mg every 8-12 hours as needed. Sedation: 25-50 mg at night.
Elderly
Lower doses (e.g., 10-15 mg) may be required due to increased sensitivity to side effects.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose reduction may be necessary in severe impairment.
How to Take
Can be taken with or without food. Syrup can be measured with a dosing spoon/cup. Tablets should be swallowed whole.
Mechanism of Action
Promethazine acts as an H1 receptor antagonist, blocking histamine's effects. It also has anticholinergic, antidopaminergic, and alpha-adrenergic blocking properties, contributing to its sedative and antiemetic effects.

Approximately 10-14 hours (variable, 7-12 hours in some sources)
