Overview of the medicine
Protear is an ophthalmic solution containing Sodium Hyaluronate, used to relieve symptoms of dry eyes such as irritation, burning, and discomfort. It helps to lubricate and moisturize the eyes by forming a stable, protective film on the ocular surface.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac 3-4 times daily, or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required.
How to Take
Wash hands thoroughly. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket. Gently squeeze the bottle to instill the prescribed number of drops into the pocket. Close eyes gently for a few seconds. Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface.
Mechanism of Action
Sodium Hyaluronate is a natural polymer found in the human body, including the eye. When applied to the eye, it forms a viscoelastic film that stabilizes the tear film, increases its breakup time, and reduces friction between the eyelids and the corneal surface. This provides sustained lubrication and protection to the ocular surface.
