Description
Overview of the medicine
Pyrac 120 mg Suspension is an oral liquid medicine containing Paracetamol, used to relieve mild to moderate pain and reduce fever, particularly in children.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
This suspension strength is primarily for pediatric use. Adults typically use higher strength tablets (500mg or 665mg) at a dose of 500-1000mg every 4-6 hours, not exceeding 4g in 24 hours.
Elderly
Same as adult recommendations; caution with hepatic or renal impairment.
Children
10-15 mg/kg body weight, every 4-6 hours as needed. Maximum 60 mg/kg in 24 hours.
Renal_impairment
Dose interval extension may be required for severe renal impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min). Consult a physician.
How to Take
For oral use only. Shake the bottle well before each use. Administer with a measuring spoon or oral syringe.
Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol is thought to act primarily in the central nervous system, inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, which leads to its analgesic and antipyretic effects. It has weak anti-inflammatory activity.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
30-60 minutes for analgesia and antipyresis.
Excretion
Primarily renal, as glucuronide and sulfate conjugates.
Half life
1-4 hours (typically 2-3 hours).
Absorption
Rapidly and completely absorbed from the GI tract. Peak plasma concentrations in 30-60 minutes.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic, mainly via conjugation with glucuronic acid and sulfate. A small amount is metabolized by cytochrome P450 to a toxic intermediate (NAPQI), which is detoxified by glutathione.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Paracetamol or any component of the formulation
- •Severe hepatic impairment or active liver disease
Drug Interactions
Alcohol
Increases risk of liver damage.
Warfarin
Increased anticoagulant effect, risk of bleeding.
Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Rifampicin
May increase hepatotoxicity of Paracetamol.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose can cause severe, potentially fatal liver damage. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and sweating. Seek immediate medical attention. N-acetylcysteine is the antidote.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and lactation at recommended therapeutic doses. However, consult a doctor before use.
