Pyrac 500 mg Tablet is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
500 mg once daily for 7-14 days, depending on the severity and type of infection.
Elderly
Dosage adjustment usually not required unless severe renal impairment is present. Monitor renal function.
Renal_impairment
Dosage reduction is required for creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min (e.g., 250 mg once daily). Specific adjustments should be made based on clinical judgment.
How to Take
Pyrac 500 mg Tablet is for oral administration. It can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Mechanism of Action
Pyrac inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, leading to disruption of bacterial DNA replication and transcription, ultimately causing bacterial cell death.

Absorption

Primarily undergoes hepatic metabolism, to a lesser extent renal excretion of metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Pyrac or other fluoroquinolones.
- •History of tendinitis or tendon rupture associated with fluoroquinolone use.
- •Patients with myasthenia gravis.
- •Children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May increase the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, requiring monitoring of INR.
Theophylline
May increase serum levels of Theophylline, potentially leading to toxicity.
Antacids and mineral supplements
May reduce the absorption of Pyrac. Take Pyrac at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after taking these agents.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, convulsions, and confusion. Management involves gastric lavage, symptomatic and supportive treatment. Hemodialysis is not effective in removing Pyrac.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pyrac is classified as Pregnancy Category C. It should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Avoid use during breastfeeding as the drug may pass into breast milk and harm the infant.
