Description
Overview of the medicine
Radex contains Ranitidine, a histamine H2-receptor antagonist used to decrease stomach acid production. It is used to treat and prevent stomach and duodenal ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For duodenal/gastric ulcer: 150 mg twice daily or 300 mg at bedtime. For GERD: 150 mg twice daily.
Elderly
No dose adjustment generally required unless renal impairment is present.
Renal_impairment
Dose reduction (e.g., 150 mg daily) is recommended if creatinine clearance is less than 50 mL/min.
How to Take
Can be taken with or without food. For bedtime dose, take after evening meal.
Mechanism of Action
Ranitidine selectively blocks histamine H2-receptors on the gastric parietal cells, leading to a reduction in both basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion.

Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May affect prothrombin time; monitor INR.
Theophylline
May increase theophylline plasma levels.
Ketoconazole/Itraconazole
Reduced absorption due to increased gastric pH.
Atenolol, Metoprolol, Propranolol
May increase plasma concentrations of beta-blockers.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptomatic and supportive treatment. Gastric lavage may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Use with caution during pregnancy if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk; advise against use during lactation or monitor infant.
