Overview of the medicine
Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce stomach acid, treating conditions like GERD, ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
GERD: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. PUD: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. Zollinger-Ellison: Initial 60 mg once daily, adjust as needed.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment usually needed, but caution advised.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment.
How to Take
Take orally, preferably before a meal. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Selectively inhibits the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (proton pump) at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cells, blocking the final step of acid production.
