Overview of the medicine
Rebreath (Montelukast) is a leukotriene receptor antagonist used for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma and for the relief of symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 mg once daily in the evening.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is generally required.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is required for patients with renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, once daily in the evening, with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Montelukast selectively binds to and inhibits the cysteinyl leukotriene 1 (CysLT1) receptor, thereby blocking the action of leukotrienes, which are potent inflammatory mediators involved in asthma and allergic rhinitis.

Onset
Clinical effects generally observed within 1 day.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in feces via bile (approximately 86% of the orally administered dose), less than 0.2% in urine.
Half life
Approximately 2.7 to 5.5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, peak plasma concentration reached in 2-4 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by CYP3A4, CYP2C9, and CYP2C8.

- Hypersensitivity to Montelukast or any component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Rifampin
May decrease Montelukast levels, clinical significance unknown.
Phenobarbital
May decrease Montelukast levels.
Storage
Store in a cool and dry place, away from light. Do not store above 30°C.
