Description
Overview of the medicine
Recicof Linctus is a combination medication used for the symptomatic relief of cough associated with colds, allergic rhinitis, and other upper respiratory tract conditions. It helps to suppress cough, relieve nasal congestion, and reduce sneezing and watery eyes.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 ml (two teaspoonfuls) 3-4 times daily.
Elderly
Similar to adult dosage, use with caution and monitor for side effects.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose adjustment may be necessary in severe impairment. Consult a doctor.
How to Take
For oral administration. Shake the bottle well before use. Use the provided measuring spoon or cup to ensure accurate dosing. Can be taken with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Dextromethorphan acts centrally on the cough center in the medulla to suppress cough. Phenylephrine is an alpha-adrenergic agonist that causes vasoconstriction, reducing nasal congestion. Triprolidine is a first-generation antihistamine that blocks H1 receptors, alleviating sneezing, itching, and rhinorrhea.

Primarily hepatic metabolism via cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYP2D6 for Dextromethorphan).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation.
- •Patients on Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing MAOIs.
- •Severe hypertension or coronary artery disease.
- •Narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy (due to antihistamine/decongestant).
Drug Interactions
Beta-blockers
May enhance the pressor effects of Phenylephrine.
MAO Inhibitors
Concomitant use can lead to hypertensive crisis (Phenylephrine) or serotonin syndrome (Dextromethorphan).
CNS depressants
Alcohol, sedatives, hypnotics, tranquilizers may enhance the sedative effects of Triprolidine.
Tricyclic antidepressants
May potentiate the sympathomimetic effects of Phenylephrine.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include severe drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, hypertension, nervousness, and in severe cases, respiratory depression or hallucinations. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage or activated charcoal if recent ingestion, and monitoring vital signs.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Not recommended during lactation as components may pass into breast milk and affect the nursing infant.
