Description
Overview of the medicine
Revlixen 10 mg capsule is an antidepressant medication used to treat various mental health conditions including major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and panic disorder. It works by helping to restore the balance of a certain natural substance (serotonin) in the brain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 10 mg once daily, may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily after 2 weeks, based on patient response and tolerability.
Elderly
Starting dose 5 mg once daily, gradually increased if needed. Maximum recommended dose 10 mg daily.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment typically required for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe impairment; consider lower starting dose.
How to Take
Take orally once daily, in the morning or evening, with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Revlixen selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) by presynaptic neurons in the central nervous system. This leads to an increase in the concentration of serotonin in the synaptic cleft, thereby enhancing serotonergic neurotransmission and improving mood and anxiety symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Initial therapeutic effects may be observed within 1-2 weeks, full effect in 4-6 weeks.
Excretion
Excreted primarily through urine (metabolites) and feces.
Half life
Approximately 24-36 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed after oral administration, peak plasma concentrations reached within 4-8 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by cytochrome P450 enzymes (e.g., CYP2D6, CYP3A4).
