Overview of the medicine
Robic (Rabeprazole Sodium) is a proton pump inhibitor used to treat conditions where the stomach produces too much acid. It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Duodenal ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. Gastric ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 6-12 weeks. GERD: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Initial 60 mg once daily, adjusted as needed.
Elderly
No dose adjustment generally required, but caution with severe hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment required for mild to moderate renal impairment.
How to Take
Taken orally, usually once daily in the morning before breakfast. Tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed.
Mechanism of Action
Rabeprazole inhibits the gastric H+, K+-ATPase (proton pump) at the secretory surface of the parietal cells. This blocks the final step of acid secretion, leading to a profound and prolonged inhibition of gastric acid secretion.

Warfarin
Increased INR and prothrombin time reported with concomitant use of PPIs and warfarin.
Methotrexate
Increased plasma levels of methotrexate when given with PPIs.
Drugs requiring acidic gastric pH for absorption (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole)
Rabeprazole can decrease their absorption.
