Overview of the medicine
Rosela 5 mg Oral Solution contains Desloratadine, a non-sedating antihistamine that provides rapid and effective relief from allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose or throat, and watery eyes. It is also used to relieve symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria like itching and hives.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
5 mg (10 ml) once daily
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required, but caution advised based on renal/hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
For severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min), initial dose of 5 mg every other day is recommended.
How to Take
Taken orally, with or without food. Use a measuring spoon or cup for accurate dosing.
Mechanism of Action
Desloratadine is a potent, selective, peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It inhibits histamine release from mast cells and reduces inflammatory mediators, thereby relieving allergy symptoms without causing significant drowsiness.

Contraindications

Alcohol
No potentiation of alcohol-induced performance impairment.
Cimetidine
Increases plasma concentration of desloratadine.
Fluoxetine
Increases plasma concentration of desloratadine.
Erythromycin
Increases plasma concentration of desloratadine.
Ketoconazole
Increases plasma concentration of desloratadine.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not freeze.
Overdose
In case of overdose, seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms may include drowsiness, somnolence, headache, tachycardia. Management is symptomatic and supportive; no specific antidote exists. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Desloratadine is excreted in breast milk; therefore, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug.
