Description
Overview of the medicine
Rotarac (Omeprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces stomach acid production. It is used to treat conditions like heartburn, ulcers, and GERD.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
GERD: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. Duodenal Ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks. Gastric Ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Initial dose 60 mg once daily, adjusted based on response.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment generally required, but caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required.
How to Take
Take whole capsule with a glass of water, preferably in the morning before a meal. Do not chew or crush the capsule.
Mechanism of Action
Omeprazole works by irreversibly binding to and inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase (proton pump) in the parietal cells of the stomach, thereby reducing gastric acid secretion.

Primarily excreted in the urine (approx. 77%) and feces (approx. 18%).

Absorption

Extensively metabolized in the liver by the cytochrome P450 system, mainly by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4.

- Concomitant use with nelfinavir
