Permethrin acts on the nerve cell membrane of parasites to disrupt the sodium channel current, which regulates polarization of the membrane. This leads to delayed repolarization and subsequent paralysis and death of the parasite.

• •Hypersensitivity to permethrin, other pyrethroids, pyrethrins, or any component of the cream.
• •Infants under 2 months of age (for 5% cream).

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not freeze.

Over-application may cause increased local irritation such as redness, swelling, and burning. Systemic overdose is unlikely due to poor dermal absorption. Management involves washing off the cream and symptomatic treatment.

Pregnancy Category B. Permethrin is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy when clinically indicated. It is minimally absorbed systemically. Consult a doctor. Limited data suggests minimal excretion into breast milk, but caution is advised during lactation.
