Description
Overview of the medicine
Sinecod SR is used for the symptomatic treatment of non-productive (dry) cough of various etiologies. It contains Butamirate Citrate as an active ingredient, which acts centrally to suppress the cough reflex.
Uses & Indications
Dosage

One Sinecod SR 50 mg tablet twice daily (morning and evening).

How to Take
Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not chew or crush. Can be taken with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Butamirate Citrate is a centrally acting non-opioid antitussive agent. It depresses the cough center in the brain, thereby reducing the frequency and intensity of coughing. It is not chemically related to opium alkaloids.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Antitussive effect usually within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Mainly excreted by the kidneys, primarily as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 4-6 hours for Butamirate and 14-16 hours for its active metabolites.
Absorption
Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1-1.5 hours for immediate release, and about 9 hours for sustained release formulations.
Metabolism
Undergoes hydrolysis to two active metabolites (2-phenylbutyric acid and diethylaminoethoxyethanol), which are extensively metabolized in the liver.
