Description
Overview of the medicine
Solider 5 mg Tablet contains Solifenacin Succinate, an anticholinergic medication used to treat symptoms of an overactive bladder, such as urinary incontinence (leakage of urine), urgency (a strong need to urinate), and frequency (frequent urination). It works by relaxing the bladder muscles.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The recommended starting dose is 5 mg once daily. If needed, the dose may be increased to 10 mg once daily.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is required in elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
For severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min), a maximum dose of 5 mg once daily is recommended.
How to Take
Solider 5 mg Tablet should be taken orally once daily with water, with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed.
Mechanism of Action
Solifenacin is a competitive muscarinic receptor antagonist. It selectively blocks M3 muscarinic receptors in the bladder, leading to relaxation of the detrusor muscle, increased bladder capacity, and reduced involuntary bladder contractions. This helps alleviate symptoms of overactive bladder.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Symptomatic improvement typically observed within 2-4 weeks.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in urine (approximately 69%), with a smaller amount in feces (approximately 23%).
Half life
Approximately 45-68 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Absolute bioavailability is approximately 90%. Peak plasma concentration is reached 3-8 hours after administration.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized by the liver, primarily by CYP3A4.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Urinary retention
- Gastric retention
- Uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma
- Severe liver impairment
- Patients hypersensitive to Solifenacin or any component of the tablet
Drug Interactions
Other Anticholinergics
May potentiate anticholinergic effects and side effects.
CYP3A4 Inducers (e.g., Rifampicin)
May decrease Solifenacin plasma concentrations.
CYP3A4 Inhibitors (e.g., Ketoconazole)
Concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors can significantly increase Solifenacin exposure. A maximum dose of 5 mg is recommended in such cases.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 30°C), away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include severe anticholinergic effects such as dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, urinary retention, and tachycardia. Treatment is supportive and symptomatic; gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is unknown whether solifenacin is excreted in human milk. A decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.

Clinical Trials
Extensive clinical trials have demonstrated Solifenacin's efficacy and safety in treating overactive bladder symptoms. Studies have shown significant reductions in urinary frequency, urgency, and urge incontinence episodes compared to placebo.
Lab Monitoring
- Routine monitoring of liver and renal function is not typically required unless pre-existing conditions exist.
- Monitor for signs of urinary retention.
Doctor Notes
- Assess patient for urinary retention before starting treatment.
- Caution in patients with significant gastrointestinal motility disorders.
- Monitor for signs of CNS anticholinergic effects in elderly patients.
- Consider dose reduction for severe renal or moderate to severe hepatic impairment, especially with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors.
Patient Guidelines
- Take the tablet whole with water.
- Do not crush or chew the tablet.
- Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
- Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking.
- Report any severe side effects immediately.
Missed Dose Advice
