Description
Overview of the medicine
Solo-09 Nasal Drop contains Xylometazoline Hydrochloride, which is a topical decongestant used to relieve nasal congestion caused by colds, allergies, and sinusitis. It works by constricting blood vessels in the nasal passages.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1-2 drops into each nostril, 2-3 times daily, for a maximum of 3-5 consecutive days.
Elderly
Same as adults, but use with caution due to potential systemic effects.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
Clear nasal passages. Tilt head back slightly and apply drops into each nostril. Keep head tilted for a few moments. Do not exceed recommended dosage or duration of use.
Mechanism of Action
Xylometazoline is an alpha-adrenergic agonist that acts on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the arterioles of the nasal mucosa, causing vasoconstriction. This leads to a reduction in swelling and congestion of the nasal passages, improving airflow.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 5-10 minutes.
Excretion
Mainly local action; any systemically absorbed drug is excreted via urine.
Half life
Approximately 5-10 hours, though systemic effects are minimal.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after topical nasal administration.
Metabolism
Not extensively metabolized locally; any absorbed drug is primarily metabolized in the liver.
