Description
Overview of the medicine
Sudac 100 mg Tablet contains Diclofenac Sodium, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), used for pain relief, reduction of inflammation, and fever. It is commonly prescribed for conditions like arthritis, muscle pain, and dysmenorrhea.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Usually 100 mg once daily (sustained release). For immediate release, 50 mg 2-3 times daily. Max 150 mg/day.
Elderly
Use lowest effective dose. Monitor for adverse effects, especially GI and renal.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose reduction may be necessary in severe impairment. Not recommended in severe renal failure.
How to Take
Swallow the tablet whole with water, preferably with or after food to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Do not chew or crush sustained-release tablets.
Mechanism of Action
Diclofenac inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are mediators of inflammation, pain, and fever. By inhibiting their synthesis, diclofenac reduces these symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes for pain relief.
Excretion
Excreted primarily through the urine (approximately 60%) and bile/feces (approximately 35%).
Half life
Approximately 1-2 hours (terminal half-life), though metabolites have longer half-lives.
Absorption
Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; peak plasma concentrations reached in 2-3 hours for conventional tablets.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by CYP2C9 and UGT enzymes, to inactive and active metabolites.
