Overview of the medicine
Sylvia ODT contains desloratadine, a non-sedating antihistamine, used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and hives.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
5 mg (one ODT) once daily.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment generally required, but caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
5 mg every other day for severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Place the orally disintegrating tablet on the tongue. It will dissolve rapidly and can be swallowed with or without water. Take with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Desloratadine is a potent, selective, peripheral histamine H1-receptor antagonist. It inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells and blocks the action of histamine, thereby reducing allergic symptoms.
