Overview of the medicine
Tapenta 100 mg Tablet contains Tapentadol, a centrally acting opioid analgesic indicated for the management of moderate to severe acute pain and chronic pain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Immediate release: Initially 50-100 mg every 4-6 hours, maximum 600 mg/day for acute pain. Dosage should be individualized based on pain intensity and patient response.
Elderly
No dose adjustment is generally required based on age alone. Monitor for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
Severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min): initiate with 50 mg no more frequently than every 8 hours.
How to Take
Orally, with or without food. Swallow tablets whole; do not crush, chew, or break.
Mechanism of Action
Tapentadol has a dual mechanism of action: it is a mu-opioid receptor agonist and a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI). These actions contribute to its analgesic effects.

Side Effects
Contraindications

Drug Interactions
MAO Inhibitors
Risk of serotonin syndrome, cardiovascular instability, respiratory depression.
Serotonergic Drugs (e.g., SSRIs, SNRIs)
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome.
CNS Depressants (e.g., benzodiazepines, alcohol)
Increased risk of respiratory depression, profound sedation, coma, and death.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms include respiratory depression, somnolence, coma, skeletal muscle flaccidity, cold and clammy skin, constricted pupils, and possibly death. Treatment involves maintaining airway, providing oxygen, and administering opioid antagonists like naloxone.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to fetus. Not recommended during breastfeeding due to potential for serious adverse reactions in breastfed infants.
