Overview of the medicine
Tenoxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the oxicam class, used to relieve pain, inflammation, and stiffness caused by various musculoskeletal and joint disorders.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
20 mg once daily.
Elderly
Lower initial dose may be considered; careful monitoring required.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment may be necessary; monitor renal function.
How to Take
Take orally, preferably with or after food to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Mechanism of Action
Tenoxicam inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are mediators of inflammation, pain, and fever.

Pain relief usually within 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via urine (two-thirds) and feces (one-third) as inactive metabolites.

Approximately 60-75 hours.

Reduced hypotensive effect and increased risk of renal impairment.
Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
Increased risk of bleeding.
Storage

Overdose
Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, lethargy. Management involves symptomatic and supportive treatment; gastric lavage or activated charcoal may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Contraindicated in the third trimester of pregnancy. Use during other trimesters only if clearly needed and benefits outweigh risks. Not recommended during breastfeeding.
