Terbinafine 1% cream is an antifungal medication used to treat various fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athlete's foot, and jock itch.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin layer to the affected skin and surrounding area once or twice daily. Duration varies: Tinea pedis (1 week), Tinea cruris/corporis (1-2 weeks), Cutaneous candidiasis (1-2 weeks), Pityriasis versicolor (2 weeks).
Elderly
No special dosage adjustment required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required for renal impairment as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area before applying. Apply a thin layer and rub gently. Wash hands after use.
Mechanism of Action
Terbinafine inhibits squalene epoxidase, an enzyme in the fungal ergosterol biosynthesis pathway. This leads to a deficiency of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane, and an accumulation of squalene within the fungal cell, resulting in fungal cell death.

Clinical improvement usually begins within a few days of treatment.

Mainly through urine if systemically absorbed, but negligible for topical use.

Systemic half-life is long (approx. 200-400 hours) if absorbed, but not clinically relevant for topical use.
