Teslar 80 mg Tablet is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) used to treat high blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. It works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The usual recommended dose is 80 mg once daily. Dosage may be adjusted based on blood pressure response.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is necessary in elderly patients, but careful monitoring is advised.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment is needed for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. For severe renal impairment, lower initial doses and careful monitoring are recommended.
How to Take
Teslar 80 mg Tablet should be taken orally once daily with or without food. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day.
Mechanism of Action
Teslar selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, inhibiting the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. This leads to vasodilation, decreased blood pressure, and reduced fluid retention.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Antihypertensive effect usually appears within 3 hours, maximum reduction within 4-8 weeks.
Excretion
Almost exclusively excreted in feces (more than 97%) via bile, with minimal renal excretion.
Half life
Approximately 20-24 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, peak plasma concentration reached in 0.5-1 hour. Absolute bioavailability is about 42-58% for 80 mg.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized by conjugation to form acylglucuronide, a non-active metabolite. Not metabolized by cytochrome P450 system.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
- Second and third trimesters of pregnancy.
- Biliary obstructive disorders.
- Severe hepatic impairment.
Drug Interactions
Digoxin
Increased serum digoxin concentrations when co-administered.
Lithium
Increased serum lithium concentrations and toxicity have been reported during concomitant administration of lithium with angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Monitor serum lithium levels.
NSAIDs (e.g., Ibuprofen)
May reduce the antihypertensive effect and increase the risk of renal impairment.
Diuretics (e.g., Furosemide)
May lead to excessive blood pressure reduction and increased risk of acute renal failure.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include hypotension, dizziness, and tachycardia. Bradycardia may also occur. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Hemodialysis is not effective.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Contraindicated during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy due to fetal toxicity. Not recommended during the first trimester. Excretion into breast milk is unknown; caution advised or alternative treatment considered.
