Description
Overview of the medicine
Ticason-005 Cream is a topical corticosteroid containing mometasone furoate 0.05%. It is used to relieve the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin film to the affected skin areas once daily.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage, use with caution and monitor for side effects.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required, as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected area and rub in gently, typically once daily. Do not use on the face, groin, or axillae, or for diaper rash unless directed by a doctor. Avoid contact with eyes.
Mechanism of Action
Mometasone furoate is a potent synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. It induces phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins (lipocortins), which control the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Relief within days of application.
Excretion
Mainly via bile and urine for systemically absorbed portions.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical use due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption; absorption increases with prolonged use, occlusive dressings, and application to large surface areas or damaged skin.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic (liver) metabolism for any systemically absorbed drug.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to mometasone furoate or any components of the formulation.
- •Untreated fungal, bacterial, or viral skin infections.
- •Perioral dermatitis, rosacea, acne, perianal and genital pruritus.
Drug Interactions
General
Systemic interactions are rare due to minimal absorption. No significant topical drug interactions reported.
Occlusive Dressings
May increase systemic absorption and potential for interactions if used with other systemically absorbed drugs.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Prolonged use of excessive amounts may lead to systemic corticosteroid effects, including Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia, and adrenal suppression. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive, gradually withdrawing the steroid.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman, and avoid applying to breast areas.
