Description
Overview of the medicine
Timonate 50 mg Tablet is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) primarily used to relieve pain, inflammation, and fever. It acts by selectively inhibiting the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
50 mg once daily, or 25 mg twice daily, adjusted based on patient response and tolerability. Max 100 mg/day.
Elderly
Initiate with the lowest effective dose, monitor for adverse effects. Consider 25 mg once daily.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose reduction may be necessary in severe impairment. Not recommended for eGFR < 30 mL/min.
How to Take
Timonate 50 mg Tablet should be taken orally with a glass of water, with or without food. Taking it with food may reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.
Mechanism of Action
Timonate selectively inhibits the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme, which is responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in pain, inflammation, and fever. By blocking COX-2, it reduces the production of these inflammatory mediators, thereby alleviating symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes for analgesic effect.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine (approximately 50-60%) and feces (approximately 25-30%) as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 8-12 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, peak plasma concentrations reached within 2-3 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes (e.g., CYP2C9).
