Cyproheptadine is a first-generation antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, and itching. It also acts as an appetite stimulant, promoting weight gain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For allergies: 4 mg three times daily. For appetite stimulation: 4 mg two to three times daily before meals. Max 32 mg/day.
Elderly
Start with lower doses (e.g., 2 mg twice daily) and adjust based on response and tolerance due to increased sensitivity to anticholinergic effects.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Dosage adjustment may be required; monitor for increased side effects.
How to Take
Administer orally with or without food. For appetite stimulation, it can be taken before meals.
Mechanism of Action
