Description
Overview of the medicine
Tribion 100 mg Injection is a combination of essential B vitamins (Thiamine, Pyridoxine, Cyanocobalamin) used to treat or prevent vitamin B deficiencies and associated neurological disorders.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 1 ampoule (3 ml) intramuscularly daily or every other day, or as directed by physician.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment usually required, but caution with renal function.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; Pyridoxine in high doses might worsen peripheral neuropathy in some renal patients.
How to Take
For intramuscular (IM) injection only. Administer deeply into a large muscle mass.
Mechanism of Action
Thiamine is essential for carbohydrate metabolism. Pyridoxine is involved in amino acid, carbohydrate, and fat metabolism, and neurotransmitter synthesis. Cyanocobalamin is crucial for DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation, and neurological function.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Relief of symptoms may be observed within hours to days, depending on deficiency severity.
Excretion
Primarily renal (urine) for excess amounts; Cyanocobalamin also via bile.
Half life
Varies for each vitamin, generally short for water-soluble vitamins (e.g., Thiamine ~0.35 hours, Pyridoxine ~15-20 days for total body store, Cyanocobalamin with enterohepatic recirculation).
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after intramuscular injection.
Metabolism
Metabolized in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component (Thiamine, Pyridoxine, Cyanocobalamin).
- Patients with Leber's disease or tobacco amblyopia (due to Cyanocobalamin).
Drug Interactions
Alcohol
May decrease Thiamine absorption.
Levodopa
Pyridoxine may reduce the effectiveness of Levodopa (but not carbidopa/levodopa combinations).
Chloramphenicol
May antagonize the hematopoietic response to Cyanocobalamin.
Isoniazid, Penicillamine, Oral contraceptives
May increase the requirement for Pyridoxine.
Storage
Store below 25°C, protect from light. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms are generally mild due to water solubility. High doses of Pyridoxine can cause peripheral neuropathy. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe at recommended doses for vitamin supplementation during pregnancy and lactation. Consult a physician.
