Description
Overview of the medicine
Ulrif is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, including those of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, and skin.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
250 mg capsule orally twice daily for 7-10 days, depending on the severity and type of infection.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required for elderly patients unless there is severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function.
Renal_impairment
Dosage reduction recommended in severe renal impairment (Creatinine Clearance < 30 mL/min). Consult a physician for specific dosage.
How to Take
Ulrif capsules can be taken with or without food. It is crucial to complete the full prescribed course of treatment, even if symptoms improve.
Mechanism of Action
Ulrif acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to osmotic instability and subsequent bacterial cell lysis and death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Clinical effects typically observed within 1-2 hours of the first dose.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via kidneys in urine, with a small portion excreted in feces.
Half life
Approximately 3-4 hours in healthy adults, which may be prolonged in renal impairment.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 1-2 hours after oral administration.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic metabolism to inactive metabolites. Minimal first-pass metabolism.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Ulrif or any components of the formulation.
- History of severe allergic reactions to other beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g., penicillins, other cephalosporins).
Drug Interactions
Probenecid
May increase Ulrif plasma levels by reducing renal tubular secretion, potentially increasing its efficacy and side effects.
Aminoglycosides
Potential for synergistic bactericidal effect but also increased risk of nephrotoxicity.
Oral Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
May enhance the anticoagulant effect, increasing the risk of bleeding. Close monitoring of INR is recommended.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In cases of overdose, gastric lavage or activated charcoal may be considered. Management is symptomatic and supportive. Hemodialysis may be useful in severe cases.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy category B. Use with caution during pregnancy; consult a doctor. Excreted in breast milk in small amounts; generally considered safe for breastfeeding, but observe the infant for adverse effects.
