Overview of the medicine
Febuxostat is used to lower uric acid levels in adults with gout.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
40 mg or 80 mg once daily. Start with 40 mg. Max 120 mg/day.
Elderly
No dose adjustment generally needed.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe.
How to Take
Orally, once daily, with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Selectively inhibits xanthine oxidase, reducing uric acid production.

Onset
Uric acid lowering effect seen within 2 weeks.
Excretion
Renal and hepatic.
Half life
Approximately 5-8 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed. Peak plasma concentration (Tmax) in 1 hour.
