Description
Overview of the medicine
Urinide 1 mg Tablet contains Finasteride, which is used to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) by increasing hair growth and preventing further hair loss. It works by decreasing the amount of a natural body hormone (DHT).
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1 mg once daily, with or without food.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment necessary.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment necessary for patients with renal impairment.
How to Take
Take one tablet orally once daily, with or without food. For best results, it should be taken at about the same time each day.
Mechanism of Action
Finasteride is a synthetic 4-azasteroid compound that is a specific inhibitor of steroid 5α-reductase, an intracellular enzyme that converts testosterone into the more potent androgen dihydrotestosterone (DHT). By inhibiting 5α-reductase, finasteride reduces scalp and serum DHT concentrations, which are linked to male pattern hair loss.

Excreted in urine (approx. 39%) and feces (approx. 57%) as metabolites.

Well absorbed from the GI tract; bioavailability is approximately 65-80%. Absorption is not affected by food.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver via cytochrome P450 3A4, with two main active metabolites.

Pregnancy: Finasteride is contraindicated in women who are or may be pregnant. It can cause abnormalities of the external genitalia in a male fetus. Lactation: Not indicated for use in women; it is not known whether finasteride is excreted in human milk.
