Description
Overview of the medicine
Utrobin 10 mg Tablet is a synthetic progestogen used in various gynecological conditions like menstrual disorders, endometriosis, and threatened/recurrent miscarriage.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For menstrual disorders: 10-20 mg daily from day 11 to day 25 of the cycle. For threatened miscarriage: 40 mg initially, then 10 mg every 8 hours until symptoms subside. For recurrent miscarriage: 10 mg twice daily until the 20th week of pregnancy.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required, but caution is advised due to potential age-related organ function decline.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustments are typically needed, but use with caution in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food. Take at the same time each day.
Mechanism of Action
Dydrogesterone acts directly on the uterus, inducing a full secretory endometrium in estrogen-primed uteri, thereby supporting pregnancy and regulating menstrual cycles.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within hours for symptomatic relief; chronic treatment for hormonal regulation.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in the urine (about 60-70%) as metabolites within 72 hours, with some fecal excretion.
Half life
Approximately 5 to 7 hours for dydrogesterone and 14 to 17 hours for its main metabolite.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, peak plasma concentrations reached within 0.5 to 2.5 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily to 20α-dihydrodydrogesterone (DHD), which is pharmacologically active.

Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to dydrogesterone or any excipients
- Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
- Known or suspected progestogen-dependent tumor

Overdose
