Overview of the medicine
Ventus 5 mg Tablet contains Montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist used for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma and for the relief of symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. The 5 mg strength is typically indicated for pediatric patients aged 6-14 years.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Ventus 5 mg tablet is primarily indicated for children aged 6-14 years. For adults, the recommended dose is typically 10 mg once daily.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is required for elderly patients, but Ventus 5 mg is primarily for pediatric use (6-14 years).
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required for patients with renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, once daily in the evening. Can be taken with or without food. For asthma, take in the evening. For allergic rhinitis, the time of administration may be individualized.
Mechanism of Action
Montelukast selectively antagonizes the CysLT1 receptor, preventing the actions of leukotrienes D4, E4, and C4, which are potent inflammatory mediators involved in asthma and allergic rhinitis.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Clinical improvement usually seen within 1 day for allergic rhinitis, and a few days for asthma.
Excretion
Excreted almost exclusively via bile in feces.
Half life
Approximately 2.7 to 5.5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are achieved in approximately 2-4 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by CYP3A4, CYP2C9, and CYP2A6.

- Hypersensitivity to the active substance (Montelukast) or to any of the excipients.
Drug Interactions
Rifampin
May decrease montelukast plasma concentrations.
Phenobarbital
May decrease montelukast plasma concentrations, monitor clinical response.

Symptoms of overdose may include abdominal pain, somnolence, thirst, headache, vomiting, and psychomotor hyperactivity. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive.
