Description
Overview of the medicine
Veri Kit is a combination medicine containing Mifepristone and Misoprostol, used for medical termination of intrauterine pregnancy up to 63 days of gestation (9 weeks).
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Day 1: 1 tablet Mifepristone 200 mg orally. Day 3 (24-48 hours later): 4 tablets Misoprostol 200 mcg (total 800 mcg) buccally (inside the cheek) or vaginally.
Elderly
Not typically indicated for elderly population.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment recommendations, use with caution.
How to Take
Mifepristone is taken orally with water. Misoprostol tablets are placed buccally (2 tablets in each cheek pouch) and allowed to dissolve for 30 minutes, then remaining fragments are swallowed with water, or placed vaginally.
Mechanism of Action
Mifepristone works by blocking the effects of progesterone, a hormone necessary for maintaining pregnancy. This leads to the shedding of the uterine lining and softening of the cervix. Misoprostol, a prostaglandin analogue, causes uterine contractions, which helps to expel the uterine contents.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Uterine bleeding usually begins within 24-72 hours after Misoprostol administration.
Excretion
Mifepristone: Primarily fecal (83%), with some renal (9%). Misoprostol acid: Primarily renal (about 73%).
Half life
Mifepristone: About 18-39 hours for total drug and metabolites. Misoprostol acid: About 20-40 minutes.
Absorption
Mifepristone: Rapidly absorbed, peak plasma concentration reached in 1-2 hours. Misoprostol: Rapidly absorbed and de-esterified to its active metabolite (misoprostol acid), peak plasma concentration of metabolite reached in about 15-30 minutes.
Metabolism
Mifepristone: Extensive hepatic metabolism via CYP3A4. Misoprostol: Rapidly metabolized to its active free acid.
