Description
Overview of the medicine
Vincet is an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergic conditions such as hay fever, chronic urticaria, and allergic rhinitis. It works by blocking histamine, a natural substance that the body produces during an allergic reaction.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
5 mg once daily, in the evening.
Elderly
Dosage adjustment may be necessary in elderly patients with impaired renal function.
Children
Children 6-11 years: 2.5 mg once daily. Children 2-5 years: 1.25 mg once daily (syrup formulation).
Renal_impairment
Dosage should be adjusted according to creatinine clearance (e.g., 2.5 mg every other day for mild impairment).
How to Take
Vincet can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. It is generally recommended to take it in the evening.
Mechanism of Action
Levocetirizine is a potent and highly selective H1-receptor antagonist. It exerts its therapeutic effect by blocking the action of histamine, thereby reducing allergic symptoms like itching, sneezing, and watery eyes.

Primarily excreted unchanged in urine (85.4% of dose) and feces (12.9%).

Absorption
Rapidly and extensively absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 0.9-1 hour.

Minimal hepatic metabolism (less than 14% of the dose is metabolized).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or any component of the formulation
- •End-stage renal disease (creatinine clearance less than 10 mL/min)
- •Patients on hemodialysis
- •Infants below 2 years of age
Drug Interactions
Ritonavir
May increase plasma concentrations of levocetirizine.
Central nervous system depressants (e.g., alcohol, sedatives)
Increased risk of drowsiness and CNS depression.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include drowsiness in adults and initial agitation/restlessness followed by drowsiness in children. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive; there is no specific antidote.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Use only if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk, caution advised during lactation as it may cause drowsiness in nursing infants.
