Description
Overview of the medicine
Vintelix 10 mg Tablet is an antidepressant primarily used to treat major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. It helps restore the balance of certain natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain, improving mood and feelings of well-being.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 10 mg once daily, may be increased to 20 mg after 1-2 weeks based on response. Maximum recommended dose is 20 mg/day.
Elderly
Initial dose 5 mg once daily, may be increased to 10 mg. Maximum 10 mg/day.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment needed for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe impairment; consider 5 mg daily.
How to Take
Take orally once daily, with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet whole with water, do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Vintelix works by selectively inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin in the brain, leading to increased serotonin concentrations in the synaptic cleft. This enhanced serotonergic activity is believed to modulate mood and anxiety symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Initial therapeutic effects observed within 1-2 weeks, full effects in 4-6 weeks.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via urine as metabolites, with a small portion in feces.
Half life
Approximately 20-25 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, peak plasma concentrations reached within 4-6 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily via CYP2D6 and CYP3A4.
