Overview of the medicine
Virzith 200 mg Suspension is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin infections, and sexually transmitted diseases. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 500 mg once daily for 3 days, or 500 mg on day 1 followed by 250 mg once daily for 4 days.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is generally required for elderly patients with normal renal and hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed for mild to moderate renal impairment. Caution with severe impairment.
How to Take
Administer orally, preferably on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after food). Shake the suspension well before each use.
Mechanism of Action
Azithromycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, thereby interfering with translocation of peptides.

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to azithromycin, erythromycin, or any macrolide antibiotic
- History of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with prior azithromycin use
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
Increased anticoagulant effect, monitor INR.
Nelfinavir
Increased azithromycin concentration.
Antacids (containing aluminum or magnesium)
Reduced peak serum concentration of azithromycin, take azithromycin at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after antacids.
Storage
Store dry powder below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Store reconstituted suspension at room temperature (20-25°C) or refrigerated (2-8°C), do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms include severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and reversible hearing loss. Treatment involves symptomatic and supportive measures.
