Description
Overview of the medicine
Vitix Gel is a non-greasy opaque gel containing Extramel®, a patented vegetable extract rich in antioxidants like superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase. It is designed to help restore the physiological balance of free radicals in epidermal cells (melanocytes and keratinocytes) and is primarily used for the management of vitiligo.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply Vitix Gel twice daily, morning and evening, to the affected areas and around the edges of the lesions. Gently massage until fully absorbed. Can be used in conjunction with UV phototherapy.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No special dosage adjustment required as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For topical external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected skin areas and gently massage until fully absorbed. Wash hands after application.
Mechanism of Action
Vitix Gel works by restoring the physiological balance of free radicals in the epidermal cells. In vitiligo, there is an imbalance in oxidative stress, leading to the destruction of melanocytes. The high concentration of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase in Vitix Gel neutralizes excess free radicals (reactive oxygen species), thereby helping to protect melanocytes from oxidative damage and promote repigmentation.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Effects are gradual, typically observed after several weeks to months of consistent application.
Excretion
Local enzymatic degradation; minimal systemic excretion.
Half life
Not applicable for a topical enzymatic antioxidant acting locally.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption expected due to topical application and enzymatic nature; primarily acts locally.
Metabolism
Enzymes are likely metabolized locally in the skin.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the gel
- Application on broken or infected skin
Drug Interactions
General
No known significant drug interactions due to minimal systemic absorption and topical nature.
Other Topicals
Avoid concurrent use with other strong oxidizing agents on the same skin area.
Storage
Store below 25°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Topical overdose is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity due to minimal absorption. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical advice.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Consult a healthcare professional before use during pregnancy or lactation. While systemic absorption is minimal, professional advice is recommended.

Clinical Trials
Several clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy of Vitix Gel, particularly when combined with phototherapy, in promoting repigmentation in vitiligo patients.
Lab Monitoring
- No specific lab monitoring required for topical application.
Doctor Notes
- Emphasize patient compliance and patience, as repigmentation is a slow process.
- Consider combination therapy with UV-B phototherapy for enhanced results.
- Document baseline skin condition and monitor repigmentation progress periodically.
Patient Guidelines
- Use consistently for several months to see results.
- Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
- Do not apply to open wounds or infected skin.
Missed Dose Advice
If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as remembered. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one. Continue with the regular schedule.
Driving Precautions
No known effects on ability to drive or operate machinery.
Lifestyle Advice
- Maintain a healthy diet rich in antioxidants.
- Protect skin from excessive sun exposure, especially depigmented areas.
- Reduce stress, as stress can sometimes worsen vitiligo.
