Description
Overview of the medicine
Vivanta 24 mg Tablet contains Betahistine, primarily used for treating symptoms of Meniere's disease such as vertigo, tinnitus, and hearing loss. It works by improving blood flow to the inner ear.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initially 8 mg three times daily, or 16 mg two or three times daily, adjusted according to response. Max 48 mg/day. Vivanta 24 mg tablet is typically taken one tablet twice daily.
Elderly

Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment recommended for patients with renal impairment.
How to Take
Oral administration. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water, preferably with meals to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort.
Mechanism of Action
Betahistine acts as a weak H1-receptor agonist and a potent H3-receptor antagonist. It is thought to improve microcirculation in the inner ear by relaxing the precapillary sphincters, thereby reducing endolymphatic pressure and improving blood flow.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Symptoms may improve within days, but full effect often takes several weeks.
Excretion
Primarily excreted via the kidneys as metabolites within 24 hours.
Half life
Approximately 3.4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and almost completely absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within one hour.
Metabolism
Rapidly and extensively metabolized to 2-pyridylacetic acid (2-PAA), which is the primary inactive metabolite.
