Description
Overview of the medicine
Voltid-1-W-Gel is a topical Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) gel containing Diclofenac Diethylamine 1% w/w. It is used for the local relief of pain and inflammation.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply 2-4 grams of gel to the affected area 3-4 times daily, gently rubbing it in.
Elderly
Same as adults; no specific adjustment needed for topical use.
Renal_impairment
No specific adjustment needed for topical use due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected skin and gently rub until completely absorbed. Wash hands before and after use. Do not apply to open wounds or mucous membranes.
Mechanism of Action
It works by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis through the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which are involved in the sensation of pain and inflammation.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Pain relief may start within minutes to hours.
Excretion
Renal pathway (for systemic component).
Half life
Systemic half-life of diclofenac is 1-2 hours, but local tissue concentration may persist longer.
Absorption
Limited systemic absorption occurs through the skin; local dermal penetration.
Metabolism
Hepatic (for systemic component), local metabolism.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to diclofenac, aspirin, or other NSAIDs.
- •Third trimester of pregnancy.
- •Application to open wounds, infected skin, or eczema.
Drug Interactions
Oral NSAIDs
Minimal for topical use. However, concomitant use with oral NSAIDs may theoretically increase systemic exposure and potential for adverse effects, though rare.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from heat and direct light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose is unlikely with topical use. In case of accidental ingestion, symptomatic treatment should be given.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use with caution in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy. Contraindicated in the third trimester. Consult a doctor before use during lactation, as diclofenac passes into breast milk in small amounts.
