Description
Overview of the medicine
Voltid 50 mg tablet contains Diclofenac Sodium, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), used for the relief of pain, inflammation, and fever.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Usually 50 mg two to three times daily, or as directed by a physician. Maximum recommended daily dose is 150 mg.
Elderly
Lower doses may be required due to increased sensitivity or impaired renal function. Monitor renal function closely.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Reduced dosage may be necessary. Monitor renal function.
How to Take
Take the tablet orally with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush, chew, or break it.
Mechanism of Action
Diclofenac inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, leading to a reduction in prostaglandin synthesis. This reduction in prostaglandins mediates its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Excretion
Approximately 60% excreted in urine as metabolites and less than 1% as unchanged drug; approximately 35% excreted in bile/feces as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 1-2 hours for parent compound.
Absorption
Rapidly and completely absorbed orally, though absorption rate may be decreased by food.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic metabolism via cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYP2C9 and CYP2C8) to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
