Description
Overview of the medicine
X-Cite 100 mg tablet is a medication used to treat major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, and panic disorder. It works by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain, a natural substance that helps maintain mental balance.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose: 50 mg once daily, usually in the morning or evening. May be increased to 100 mg after 1 week. Maximum dose: 200 mg daily.
Elderly
A lower initial dose (e.g., 25 mg) may be considered, with gradual titration based on response and tolerability. Maximum dose generally 100 mg daily.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is generally necessary for mild to moderate renal impairment. For severe renal impairment, caution is advised and dose reduction may be considered.
How to Take
Take X-Cite tablet orally, once daily, with or without food. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
Mechanism of Action
Excitabine Hydrochloride selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) into presynaptic neurons, thereby increasing the concentration of 5-HT in the synaptic cleft. This leads to enhanced serotonergic neurotransmission, which is believed to be responsible for its antidepressant and anxiolytic effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Initial antidepressant effects may be seen within 1-2 weeks; full therapeutic effect typically observed after 4-6 weeks of consistent use.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via the kidneys as metabolites, with a small portion excreted in feces.
Half life
Approximately 20-30 hours, allowing for once-daily dosing.
Absorption
Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; peak plasma concentrations achieved within 4-6 hours.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYP2D6, CYP3A4, CYP2C19) to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Excitabine Hydrochloride or any excipients.
- •Concomitant use with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing an MAOI.
- •Concomitant use with pimozide.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
Increased risk of bleeding due to potential potentiation of anticoagulant effects.
Triptans (e.g., Sumatriptan)
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
Fatal reactions can occur; allow at least 14 days between discontinuing an MAOI and starting Excitabine, and vice-versa.
NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs)
Increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding when co-administered.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include somnolence, vomiting, tachycardia, tremor, agitation, dizziness, and rarely seizures. Management involves supportive care, maintaining an open airway, monitoring cardiac and vital signs. There is no specific antidote.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Neonates exposed to SSRIs in late third trimester have developed complications. Excitabine is excreted in human milk; use with caution in nursing mothers.
