Description
Overview of the medicine
Xenoderm 0.05% Ointment is a potent topical corticosteroid used for the treatment of various inflammatory and pruritic skin conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily. Do not use for more than 2-4 weeks without medical review.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required; however, use with caution due to thinner skin.

How to Take
For external use only. Apply a thin layer of ointment to the affected skin area and gently rub in. Do not apply to open wounds, eyes, or mucous membranes. Wash hands before and after application.
Mechanism of Action
Xenoderm 0.05% Ointment exerts its effects by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, called lipocortins. These proteins control the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting the release of their common precursor, arachidonic acid.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Effects typically observed within a few hours to days of application.
Excretion
Excreted mainly via urine, and to a lesser extent, bile, after systemic absorption.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical application due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Limited systemic absorption after topical application; however, absorption can increase with occlusive dressings, prolonged use, or application to large surface areas.
Metabolism
Metabolized primarily in the liver, similar to other corticosteroids, once absorbed systemically.
