Description
Overview of the medicine
Xerokof is a non-drowsy cough syrup containing Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, used for the relief of dry and irritating coughs associated with common cold and minor throat irritations. It works by suppressing the cough reflex.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10-20 mg (10-20 ml) every 4-6 hours as needed, not to exceed 120 mg (120 ml) in 24 hours.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment needed, but monitor for adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; dose reduction may be necessary in severe impairment.
How to Take
Oral administration. Measure dose accurately using the provided measuring cup or spoon. May be taken with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Dextromethorphan acts centrally on the cough center in the medulla oblongata to elevate the cough threshold, thereby suppressing the cough reflex. It does not possess analgesic or addictive properties at therapeutic doses.

Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, nystagmus, ataxia, CNS depression, and respiratory depression. Management is supportive, including gastric lavage or activated charcoal if appropriate, and monitoring vital signs. Naloxone may be used in severe cases.

Use with caution during pregnancy; consult a doctor. Excreted in breast milk, use with caution during lactation.
